On the 22nd of August 2024, near Grindavík, a volcanic eruption is taking place that can be seen from Reykjavík. Lava is flowing out of a fissure and craters. Hrönn Håkansson is on a night shift. Afterwards, she writes me a message.
Six days later, the geologist Einar O. Þorleifsson and I are trying to get a good view of the eruption.

In 1977, Eydís' grandfather died of a heart attack at the age of 54. When her father was 54, he suffered a very serious heart attack. He was taken to the hospital. When Eydís visited him and saw how the cardiac nurses helped her father survive, she decided to become a cardiac nurse herself.
When Eydís later applied for jobs, she was offered positions in the lung, orthopedic, arthritis, and cardiac wards. For her, the decision was easy: Cardio is my heart! She got the heart vase from her husband for her 35th birthday.

Already two giraffes have been seen in blots. I try to find out if there has ever been a giraffe in Iceland and contact the Icelandic Museum of Natural History. They reply promptly: No living giraffe so far, but maybe some privately owned stuffed giraffes. I also ask Skatturinn, the Icelandic customs authority, if they know about any giraffe imports, but they don’t respond.
Giraffes’ sweat seems to have a very special and intense smell.
Wikipedia mentions some chemical substances but also natural products that resemble it. I would like to mix them and imitate the scent.
Valtýr/Biopol asks Medor, their distributor for laboratory products, if I can order the necessary chemicals. Unfortunately, it is not possible. To find natural alternatives, Valtýr also asks ChatGPT.
Finally, I try to find as many ingredients as possible in Skagaströnd.

Einar Ó. Þorleifsson knows a lot about animals and shows me the article about giraffes in his book on mammals. He also knows about the hunter Tómas Árdal, who lives in Sauðárkrókur. He expects him to have a giraffe.
I contact Tómas Árdal. He promptly responds and invites me and Arnrun Ragnheiðardóttir, who has seen one of the giraffes in her blot. We go to Sauðárkrókur and have a look at his giraffe: its‘ skin and skull.

There has never been a living giraffe in Iceland. I have built a 5.90 m-long wooden giraffe pole. A camera/phone is attached to the upper end.

At Skagaströnd beach volcanic ash can be seen: a thin grey line in the soil. It is probably from the Hekla 3 eruption, around 3000 years BP.
